We worked with a London architect keen to explore the possibilities of building an amphibious house for their client who wanted adapt their existing house in a high flood risk area.

Being amphibious, the house is designed to rest on the ground in dry conditions but rise up in its dock during a flood.  The base was designed to be invisible from the outside and the level of the ground floor only needed slight adjustment. The entire 225m2 three-bedroom house sits in the middle catchment of the Thames and between November 2019 and February 2020 during severe winter flooding it rose and fell successfully without intervention.
